Kappa Alpha Theta supports Bay Area nonprofits, in particular the Child Advocates of Silicon Valley

As an all-women organization, we aim to support the broader Bay Area community through fundraising and outreach efforts to share the wealth of our close Stanford community.

Service required by group to complete a Cardinal Commitment: Kappa Alpha Theta is committed to working on several fundraising and philanthropic efforts throughout the year. We will allow students to fulfill their Cardinal Commitment by offering constant opportunities for service to all of our members. More specifically, in the winter quarter, we sell "crush grams," or a bottle of Crush soda around Valentine's day in support of various organizations decided upon by our community each year.  In response to the Australian wildfires, we have chose to support WIRES, an organization committed to wildlife relief in Australia. In the spring, our philanthropic event is chosen by members of the organization, which encourages a lot of excitement and buy-in. This year, we are excited to be working with Heart and Home Collaborative, the local women's shelter.

Finally, our greatest effort takes place in the fall. We host ThetaBreakers, a 5k/10k race in support of the Child Advocates of Silicon Valley, the local chapter of a national organization called the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). CASA provides advocacy for foster youth both in and out of court, and we have been supporting them through this race for 32 years. This race raises about $40,000 each year and hosts over 300 participants on campus. To accompany the race, we host a separate "CASA Carnival" for the foster youth and their advocates at our house. Members put on carnival games, crafts and snacks to give them an amazing day. We also love getting to meet the children we support!
Through these major efforts, students will have ample opportunity to fulfill their three quarter minimum of Cardinal Commitment.
