Stanford Data and Mapping for Society (DAMS)

The Stanford Data and Mapping for Society (DAMS) is a student-led organization that leverages data science, geospatial analysis, and visualization to address pressing social issues. Through interdisciplinary projects, DAMS collaborates with faculty, researchers, and external partners to provide actionable insights for communities and policymakers.

Our Mission

DAMS aims to:

  • Harness the power of data to promote social impact.
  • Empower students with technical and analytical skills in mapping and data visualization.
  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration between students in technology, policy, and social sciences.
  • Engage with real-world challenges through research, consulting, and advocacy.

What We Do

  • Research Projects: Work on initiatives related to public policy, international security, climate change, and urban planning.
  • Workshops & Training: Provide skill-building sessions on GIS, data visualization, and analytics.
  • Speaker Series: Host experts from academia, industry, and government to discuss applications of data in solving societal problems.
  • Collaborations: Partner with Stanford research centers, nonprofits, and government organizations to turn data into meaningful solutions.

DAMS is open to all Stanford students, regardless of technical background. We welcome members from diverse disciplines interested in using data for social good.
