YMCA of Silicon Valley
At the YMCA, there are many ways volunteers can engage with youth in our afterschool programs, both in person and online.
Program Assistants help YMCA staff with curriculum focused on art, games, social emotional learning, and academic enrichment. No experience is needed to volunteer for this in-person opportunity. Volunteers will need to identify their commitment (both availability and length of time they would like to be a program assistant) before being placed as a volunteer.
Volunteers can also support students as online and in person homework support. In this role, volunteers will be paired with one to three children and have specific times to meet with students, under the supervision of YMCA staff, to provide them with homework support.
All volunteers will be required to complete an application and background check (at no cost to the volunteer), attend child abuse prevention training, and adhere to all campus rules. Volunteers will not be left alone with students and will always have a YMCA staff member present to supervise all interactions.
