StreetCode Academy
StreetCode Academy's mission is to empower communities of color with the mindset, skills, and access to participate in the innovation economy. We envision a world where people of color have the power of community, innovation, and freedom. We believe that the key to true, sustainable change lies in addressing the mindsets, skills, and access gaps between and within the innovation economy and communities of color. All of our programs aim to address the gaps in these three areas.
Opportunities: As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we rely on support from community volunteers to help us effectively run our slate of programs. There are three main areas in which we could use your support:
- Class Mentors: StreetCode offers classes during the winter, spring, and summer quarters of the year. Mentors help the classroom instructors to lead small group activities, answer questions, and work with students who need extra attention. StreetCode classes take place on weekday afternoons and evenings depending on instructor availability. Curriculum spans a wide range of areas like coding, entrepreneurship, and design. We welcome all individuals, regardless of experience, to sign up if they have a passion for empowering our community. Both online and onsite volunteer opportunities are available.
- Level Up: Level Up is StreetCode's free tech rental program. Level Up volunteers work with our community technology manager to make sure all StreetCode tech is updated, cataloged, and distributed appropriately to community members. Volunteers would be expected to report to our office in East Palo Alto for their volunteer hours.
- Lab Mentors: Like classes, StreetCode offers labs on weekday afternoons and evenings. These labs are bite-sized learning experiences designed to expose all participants to different aspects of technology. We welcome all individuals, regardless of experience, to sign up if they have a passion for empowering our community. Volunteers would be expected to report to our office in East Palo Alto for their volunteer hours.
