Stanford Women in Computer Science (WiCS)
Provide bi-weekly coding lessons and mentorship workshops to underserved high school students
The Stanford Women in Computer Science (WiCS) Outreach Team runs an educational computer science outreach program called Stanford WiCS Outreach Workshop (WOW). The purpose of this program is to serve low-income, historically underrepresented high school students in the communities surrounding Stanford. As a volunteer with Stanford WOW, you will teach introductory computer science topics at weekly sessions, which occur on Friday afternoons. In addition, you can serve as a mentor and hold biweekly mentorship meetings with a small group of students. The topics discussed during the mentorship meetings include future career paths, time management, the college application process, and summer opportunities. Basic familiarity with computer science principles is helpful, but not required, to volunteer with Stanford WOW.
