Stanford Outdoor Outreach Program (SOOP)

Facilitate hiking, climbing, and camping experiences with Bay Area youth

SOOP cover

Stanford Outdoor Outreach Program (SOOP) has a mission to enhance love of the outdoors, foster community and instill personal confidence in San Francisco Bay Area youth through facilitated outdoor experiences.

We lead hikingcamping, and rock climbing trips for high school students new to the outdoors. We currently work with East Palo Alto Academy, Eastside College Preparatory School, and Carlmont High School’s AVID program. In addition to our service, Stanford SOOPers gain appreciation of the outdoors, increase their group leadership skills, and develop their comfort in working with youth.

We meet every other Monday at 8:00 pm in Trancos Lounge.

Trips

Camping is where we drive all the gear into a campsite. We explore the area, with day hikes and games. This is a great way to experience a new place and bond with fellow participants.

Indoor Rock Climbing happens at Stanford’s indoor climbing facility. These are action-filled days where students gain confidence and team building.

Day Hikes are an excellent way to explore the Bay Area. Every time we learn about a unique California ecosystem. As always, games are a must!
