Stanford Outdoor Outreach Program (SOOP)
SOOP's mission is to enhance interpersonal relationships, foster community and instill personal confidence in San Francisco Bay Area youth through facilitated outdoor experiences. Primarily we serve high school students enrolled in EPAA and in the Luis Valdez Leadership Academy; we do so by facilitating camping, backpacking, climbing and hiking trips throughout the academic year. In addition to the service we provide to high school students, Stanford students who participate in SOOP gain comfort and appreciation in and of the outdoors, increase their group leadership and group management skills and develop their comfort in working with youth. We meet every Thursday evening at 7pm at the Outdoor Center.
Service required to fulfill a Cardinal Commitment: Service required by group to fulfill a Cardinal Commitment Members can come to our weekly meetings that have a variety of topics including preparing for SOOP trips, engaging with topics of equity and diversity, and hanging out with other Sooper awesome people. On top of that, SOOP members may choose to lead about 1-3 trips per year with high school students.
