Stanford Health Advocacy and Research in the Emergency Department (SHARED)

Volunteer for local nonprofits that address social health determinants and contribute to research on social needs and high-risk behaviors

Stanford Health Advocacy and Research in the Emergency Department (SHARED) cover

Stanford Health Advocacy and Research in the Emergency Department (SHARED) exists to address social determinants of health connecting patients and community members to essential resources and contributing to research on high risk behaviors. SHARED serves individuals facing health and social challenges, including those impacted by barriers to healthcare, social services, and support systems. The program will begin by partnering with local community organizations, offering volunteer support, gaining insights into resource distribution challenges, and potentially assisting with fundraising efforts. Over time, SHARED aims to collaborate with Stanford Emergency Department faculty to reinstate the ED Help Desk, screen patients for social needs and high-risk behaviors, and develop initiatives to connect patients with health education, community services, and support networks.
