The Stanford Global Studies (SGS) Division offers Stanford students an opportunity to extend classroom learning to immersive, cultural and professional experiences through the Global Studies Internship Program.

Program-identified internship positions cover a wide range of fields—including business, nonprofit, media, education, medicine, arts, technology, engineering, science, law, human rights, and government. The program also supports students for self-arranged internships.

Currently enrolled freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, and coterms at Stanford in ALL majors are eligible to apply, including undeclared students. Some positions are open to master's students in East Asian Studies.

The overall stipend base is $6,000 per student provided by the host organization, the program, or both.

Stanford students have participated in the program in Australia, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, China, Estonia, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Kenya, Latvia, Rwanda, South Korea, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom. More geographic locations might be added based on student demand. The Global Studies Internship Program collaborates with international area studies programs and centers within the Stanford Global Studies Division.

Undergraduate internships are available to freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, and coterms in all majors, including undeclared.
Graduate internships are available to the Center for East Asian Studies MA students.
Applicants must be current Stanford students during the internship period. Graduating seniors must postpone graduation paperwork until the internship ends, but may participate in commencement. For summer graduation requirements, including details regarding enrollment requirements and information about participation in the June commencement ceremonies, students should contact their major department's student services office or the Registrar's Office.
Local language skills are based on the internship job description requirements.
Interns must commit to full-time work (a minimum of 35 hours per week) for at least eight weeks, unless otherwise noted on the internship description.
