Fossil Free Stanford
Run campaigns on fossil fuel harms, push Stanford to divest and reject fossil fuel funding, and amplify student voices in decision-making
Fossil Free Stanford calls on Stanford leaders to decline funding from fossil fuel companies and divest the endowment from Fossil Fuels. As student organizers and scientists and public service leaders in training, we organize and serve our peers who are frustrated by a mismatch between Stanford's words and actions. We push for greater transparency and true commitment to sustainability and environmental justice on campus.
Fossil Free Stanford works to achieve our aims through a multi-pronged strategy. We have numerous opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to contribute including:
- Storytelling: Fossil Free highlights student stories of environmental injustices
- Research: Students can assist in research on the harms of Big Oil involvement, including collaborations with the international Campus Climate Network
- Media and Social Media: We are always eager for ideas on op-eds to draft and share and better ways to have our campaign picked up in the press, including social media campaigns
- Community Art Projects: our past art projects have involved screen printing and chalking to raise awareness
- Speaker events and town halls: events open to the Stanford community are a key element of our outreach strategy
- Direct actions: actions could range from protests to humorous publicity stunts
