CHE hopes to empower underrepresented individuals to pursue health careers. CHE puts on several events and conferences for people in and around the Stanford community. We have a yearly high school conference for 120 pre-health high schoolers in the spring, and we help plan the SUMMA conference, which helps increase diversity in the health professions in order to better care for underserved communities (with the focus being on college students). We also host speakers and doctors of underrepresented backgrounds from the medical school to give members of the Stanford community and CHE a chance to talk to people in the fields they want to see themselves in in the future. CHE participates in a high school outreach program put on by the medical school, which allows our members to volunteer in the community to teach lessons about the healthcare field.
Service required by group to fulfill a Cardinal Commitment: To pursue a Cardinal Commitment, students must be a part of CHE's board. Our board members take lead roles in planning all conferences and events. Board members put in about 3 hours a week.
