Cardinal Recovery
The Recovery and Service Fellowship
Nationwide, over 600,000 college students identify as being a person in recovery from substance use disorder. To help meet the needs of these individuals, Cardinal Recovery provides peer-led support for people struggling with substance use and behavioral process addictions. We create safe spaces where students and alumni can share their experiences and feelings and hear others share theirs. We also facilitate community through substance-free events and programming by ourselves and in collaboration with our community partners like The Phoenix. Volunteers will have opportunities to work on campus, in the Bay Area, and at virtual events. Events may include sober socials, end-of-quarter dinners, facilitating meetings, working with the Well House, tabling, and social media engagement.
The Recovery and Service Fellowship is available in Fall, Spring, Winter, and Summer (ask about service during school closures too!).
For more information, email Cardinal Recovery or schedule a 1-on-1 with the Collegiate Recovery Coordinator, Corey Lamb.
From The Phoenix

With 23 million Americans living with substance use, The Phoenix is on a mission to help as many people as possible. The Phoenix is building a vibrant community of people in recovery with support, hope, and resilience. Volunteers are peers in recovery and allies who are inspired to make a difference by helping others get the support they need to thrive. They graciously leverage their unique talents to lead or support Phoenix activities and events like yoga, meditation, book clubs, socials, hikes, walks, cycling, fitness, music, and more—allowing us to meet the needs in their community and reach more people across the globe.
Eligibility
Cardinal Recovery is open to any Stanford affiliate interested in recovery, whether for themselves or someone else or with a desire for a better understanding of recovery. At no point can someone assume that someone interacting with Cardinal recovery is in recovery themselves. They can only assume they are being of service, earning academic credit, or learning how to destigmatize self-help-seeking behaviors related to addiction or substance use.
Cardinal Commitment
To complete a Cardinal Commitment with the Haas Center, in addition to working with an organization regularly for three quarters, students must also complete the online tutorial in the Principles of Ethical and Effective Service. It only takes a half hour, and is the defining component of all Cardinal Service opportunities. When students register their Commitment with an organization, they are given the link to the online module.
