2022 TomKat Center Energy Impact Fellowship
The summer 2022 Energy Impact Fellowship will be hosted and led by Working Trees.
Working Trees’ mission is to grow trees where the interests of farmers and the climate overlap, unlocking the largest agricultural climate solution we have -- agroforestry. We are developing a technology platform that democratizes access to carbon markets for landowners of all sizes by leveraging smartphone LiDAR, satellite remote sensing data, and machine learning models. We have started with establishing trees on pasture land in the US Southeast, and have officially launched the first agroforestry carbon project in the US (first trees started growing in February 2022).
As a key next step, we need to go through the process of setting up our project within the voluntary carbon market. We are looking for a team willing to both think and do -- this outcome will be a combination of a report AND the successful registration of the carbon project. Over the 2022 summer, the TomKat Impact Fellows will help us advance the deployment of our platform. The Impact Fellow main activities will revolve around these goals and milestones:
- Validating our standards approach (essentially the rules under which we plan to work)
- Drafting the materials to register the project
- Iterating with feedback from our external advisors
- Actually submitting! You'd have a role in registering the first agroforestry carbon project in the country (to our knowledge)
Undergraduate students (any year or major) who have a passion for renewable energy and who enjoy working on projects that have tangible social value. Some relevant technical and project management experience or skills would be a plus. Creativity, curiosity, resourcefulness, and the ability to work in collaboration with others are paramount.
